Your Daily Dose of Inspiration:
In a world where everyone is being told that they are fine just the way they are, it is a controversial thing to say that we are not. We are constantly being told to just be ourselves. Our every emotion, feeling, and desire is legitimized and called good. Our society would not like Jesus at all. For He speaks the truth even when no one wants to hear it. And the truth is we are not fine the way we are. We should not just be ourselves, because our self is broken, wicked, and cruel. Not every emotion, feeling, or desire is legitimate and good. There are real problems in our hearts that need to be addressed and no one is improved by ignoring them. The work of Jesus is not to accept everyone just the way they are. The work of Jesus is to show the world its own sickness and ugliness. It is to make us discontent with the way we are and to show us a better way. The work of Christ is to make us thirsty and then give us the water that we need to slake that thirst.
John 6:33-35 For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” (34) They said to him, “Sir, give us this bread always.” (35) Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.
Not everyone will happy to be told that they need the salvation of Christ. Not everyone will be happy to have their need shown to them. Jesus told the people that the bread of God gives life to the world, and they asked Him for it. But, when He told them that only in Him can our hunger and thirst for righteousness be filled, they hated Him for it.
John 6:66 After this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him.
When you tell someone that they need a shower, they will either be offended, or thankful. Those who are offended will get nothing, those who are thankful will get clean.
