Your Daily Dose of Inspiration:
Though this may be a difficult thing to accept, it is better to be a slave of God than a ruler of men. For the rule of men is a small and temporary thing, but the kingdom of God is everlasting. Furthermore, God Himself shows us that greatness within His kingdom is not gained by becoming more than your fellow man. Rather, to be great in the Kingdom of God, you must become the slave of all.
Mark 10:42-45 And Jesus called them to him and said to them, “You know that those who are considered rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. (43) But it shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, (44) and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. (45) For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
To serve others, to consider yourself the slave of your brothers and sisters, is to follow the example of Christ. For remember, Christ never commands us to do what He Himself has not also done. He declares that in order to be great in God’s eyes you must serve others, Christ then becomes the greatest of all by submiting Himself to the cross for the sake of us all. He came not to be served, but to serve. How can we then consider ourselves too great to be the servants of one another? Let us not be bound up in pride, but rather let us, in humility, serve one another and consider each other as more than ourselves.
