A Message From Marlys:
This coming Monday night – June 1 – Aaron and I are hosting a debris pickup party. It will be between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 pm at the Boulevard near the bridge to Petersburg on Archer Street which is to the West. Wear your rubber gloves and bring a couple large leaf bags if you have them. We will provide bags if you don’t. You can park on Archer Street and we will be working on that street between Boulevard and the Maddox Apartments. The grass is on the long side that you will be walking in so wear appropriate shoes.
If you check the weather you will see that it should be a perfect night for a leisurely walk and lots of stretching! First 8 people to RSVP get to participate.
This is an opportunity to love on the people in that neighborhood and pray for our community. Hope to see you and remember to contact Aaron or Marlys!

Your Daily Dose of Inspiration:
Matthew 12:33-37 “Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree bad and its fruit bad, for the tree is known by its fruit. (34) You brood of vipers! How can you speak good, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. (35) The good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil. (36) I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, (37) for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”
We live in the age of information. Never in all history has it been so easy to gain knowledge. If I want to know the exact height of the third highest peak on the continent of Africa, all I need to do is search for it on Google. If I want to know what President Taft’s middle name was, all I need is a phone with a data plan. If I want to know what the wife of my friend from high school had for dinner last Tuesday, I can probably find out on her Facebook page. All kinds of information lie at the literal tips of our fingers. Never have the avenues of instant communication been so open. If we have a thought, we can instantly share it with the world. If we have a thought about someone else’s thoughts, it is just as easily communicated to that person. If we want to share our views on politics, religion, family, pets, food, or absolutely anything, we can in a global open-forum. Such open communication should mean that problems and differences are more often resolved with peace and diplomacy between people, right?
Anyone who has been on Facebook for a day knows that is not the case. It seems to me that problems in communication and disputes between people have become worse. Arguments over every issue have become sharper and more insulting. Relationships are strained if not broken by the words people so casually put in a social media post. Never have so many careless words caused so much pain and offense, and this is not just an issue among those without Christ. His own children have taken to harsh conversation and words without love to even each other. If God’s people will be known by their love for each other, then I fear that we would not be recognized. What did Christ say in our opening verse? “On the day of judgement people will give account for every careless word they speak.” Do not be deceived, the words we put on our posts, in our texts, in our emails, etc. are all still spoken words and those words affect real people in very real ways. If we cannot restrain our words to even each other, then we have no control over ourselves and our faith is of no use. James 1:26 If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person’s religion is worthless.
