We are all used to the idea of being thankful on Thanksgiving! We count our blessings, give gratitude for the good things we’ve been given, and thank the Lord for His goodness. Thanksgiving is meant to be a joyful time, filled with friends, food, and family. However, it can be hard to be joyful sometimes. Just as we remember the good times, the hard times linger in our hearts and minds as well.
Today I will not tell you to forget the hard times and just focus on the good. I won’t tell you that your hurt and struggles don’t matter because there are also good things in your life. Instead I want to encourage you to look at it all, the good and the bad, and be thankful – for all of it. It is easy to be thankful for the good times, it is holy to be grateful for the bad.
How can you be grateful for your pain? Why would you thank God for your struggle? Bless the Lord in your suffering because He is using even that to do a great work in you. He will not leave you in your low place, but instead He will water you and you will grow and blossom from the dirt. It is normal to want to stay the same, but God has greater and better things in mind for you. He wants you to grow, to blossom, to use your scars as a strength!
So today we thank God for the good and the bad. Even our pain gives way to blessing. And we are thankful.
