Your Daily Dose of Inspiration:
Look at how Jesus responded when He was called good.
Mark 10:17-18 “And as he was setting out on his journey, a man ran up and knelt before him and asked him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” (18) And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone.””
No one is good except God alone. That is such a powerful statement. It is to declare that only God is able to define goodness. In fact, we are unable to find anything good outside of Him, for He and He alone is good. We are trying to measure God by our standard of goodness, all while forgetting that He is the standard of all that is good. Humankind has broken itself trying to find goodness apart from God. That was the sin of Adam & Eve. God told them not to eat of that tree, but the serpent told Eve that God was just trying to keep something good from them.
Genesis 3:6 “So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate. “
See those key words: good, a delight, desired. Adam & Eve tried to pursue a good outside of God and found nothing but evil. That story is repeated throughout all of history. We try to define our own good outside of God, and all we find is evil. Can you imagine playing basketball with someone, and all of a sudden, they decide that they don’t like the rules. They start ignoring the existing rules and start making up their own. Would that game be enjoyable? No, I daresay the game would fall apart and could no longer be called basketball. The same happens with us in life. We search for something good outside of God, and it all falls apart.
